Job Description
The Gas Accounting Support Manager is responsible for ensuring that all gas-related revenue and cost transactions are recorded accurately, analyzed thoroughly, and reported promptly. This role guarantees compliance with state and federal regulations while meeting both internal and external reporting standards. The Manager will lead efforts to reconcile discrepancies in gas transactions and collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operations. Key Responsibilities:
- Revenue and Cost Recording
- Oversee the accurate recording of revenue and expenses related to gas operations, ensuring proper settlement of supply and delivery transactions. Resolve discrepancies during reconciliation with counterparties and customers, aligning invoice amounts with contractual terms.
- Invoice Verification & Discrepancy Resolution
- Direct the review and verification of gas supply and transportation invoices to ensure correctness, aiding in the resolution of any discrepancies related to vendor payments and transport issues.
- Pipeline Volume Reconciliation
- Supervise the reconciliation of scheduled pipeline volumes with monthly transportation statements. Collaborate with the Scheduling and Trading teams to resolve any volume discrepancies.
- Month-End Balancing and Reconciliation
- Manage the balancing of month-end data by pipeline. Ensure that estimate-to-actual reconciliations related to natural gas activities are performed accurately and reported on time.
- Customer Usage Data Management
- Lead the collection, review, and processing of customer usage data from various pipelines and utilities. Ensure accurate invoicing and financial recording by properly loading and analyzing these volumes in the financial systems.
- Storage and Pricing Analysis
- Review and verify monthly storage statements, ensuring the accurate documentation of storage volumes and the correct application of pricing for cost recording and deferrals.
- Reconciliation and Issue Resolution
- Oversee reconciliation processes to identify and resolve volume and pricing issues. Work closely with the Trading, Scheduling, and Actualization teams to resolve discrepancies efficiently.
- SOX Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure timely and accurate provision of financial and statistical data in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) requirements. Support audit processes by preparing and organizing necessary documentation.
- Financial & Statistical Reporting
- Manage the preparation of accounts receivable and payable schedules, variance analyses, and various financial reports. Ensure these reports comply with relevant regulatory standards and internal policies.
- System Maintenance and Data Integrity
- Direct the creation and maintenance of critical system files for business units. Conduct regular audits to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the data within the system.
- Audit and Stakeholder Reporting
- Coordinate the preparation of financial and statistical reports for internal and external auditors, governmental agencies, and other stakeholders as required.
- Project Leadership and Process Improvement
- Lead initiatives for process reengineering, system automation, and addressing new business requirements. Collaborate with project teams during the design, testing, and implementation phases of new systems.
- Customer Relationship Management
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external customers. Address escalated issues promptly and provide solutions to maintain customer satisfaction.
- Team Development and Mentorship
- Mentor, manage, and develop a team of analysts, providing them with direction, training, and support to enhance their technical and interpersonal skills. Promote operational efficiency through effective leadership.
- Collaboration and Alignment
- Foster a collaborative environment, aligning departmental efforts to ensure organizational objectives are met effectively.
Required Qualifications: - Educational Background
- A bachelor’s degree in economics, accounting, finance, or business from an accredited institution.
- Professional Experience
- A minimum of seven years of experience in gas accounting, revenue accounting, or a similar field within the gas or energy industry is required.
- Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel (advanced formulas and workbook management).
- Experience with Openlink Endur ETRM, Salesforce, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, particularly in revenue and cost accounting.
- Proficient in performing financial computations and variance analysis.
