Heavy Equipment Mechanic
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and diagnosis of equipment at the terminal. To safely perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities to facility assets such as, but not limited to, cranes, excavators, dozers, forklifts, telehandlers, welding machines, air compressors, front wheel loaders, UTVs, trucks ½ ton and up, etc.
Communicate with other team members to establish and maintain, repair, and construct terminal equipment. Performs administrative duties associated with the position and assigned schedules to ensure work is completed safely and timely.
Roles:
• Preventive Maintenance: responsible for ensuring all preventive maintenance is completed on all heavy equipment, light trucks and UTV’s.
• Repairs: responsible for all repairs of heavy equipment, light trucks and UTV’s at the terminal.]
Responsibilities:
• Perform preventive maintenance as scheduled.
• Inspect and audit equipment usage and checklists periodically for issues.
• Generate parts requisitions for repairs.
• Corrects equipment deficiencies with proper diagnosing techniques.
• Provides input on preventing inadvertent equipment breakdowns.
• Removal of parts, major assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components.
• Work system such as, power and drive trains, electrical, HVAC, fuel, emissions, steering, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Completes shop operations by adjusting and aligning items such as bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, brakes, and traction units.
• Verifies equipment performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
• Complies with equipment requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
• Maintains equipment records by annotating services and repairs on work orders.
• Must participate in all Safety and Health Training requirements as scheduled.
• A willingness to further experience by supervisor training.
• Assists in other areas of business as needed.
• Attends and participates in daily, weekly/monthly meetings, and/or standdowns.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
• Must be 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 10+ years of experience and/or certifications.
• Must work on multiple fronts simultaneously.
• Specialized training and certifications that must be completed and maintained.
• Demonstrated ability to independently establish priorities.
• Must be able to read and interpret parts manuals, drawings, diagrams, and schematics.
• Common knowledge of Lock Out Tag Out, Safety Data Sheets and Computerized Maintenance management Systems.
• Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card.
• Must possess and maintain a valid US driver’s license.
• Must pass all pre-employment testing including a drug test, physical and background check.
Physical Demands:
• Entering, exiting, and operating equipment.
• Ability to work at elevated heights, including using lifts, ladders, and stairs.
• Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
• Work is done outdoors; must be comfortable working in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to perform work wearing personal protective equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Position Details:
• Shift work - must be available and flexible to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays.
• Will be subject to Call out.
• Non-Exempt position.
