Resident Engineer

Location: New Jersey (Travel to worksites required)

Employment Type: Full-time, W-2

Overview:

A multidisciplinary AECM firm with a strong presence along the East Coast is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to manage and supervise construction activities on highway and/or roadway projects throughout New Jersey. This role ensures that all work complies with contract specifications and timelines, while serving as a liaison between contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise highway and roadway construction to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications.
• Maintain detailed project documentation and produce regular progress reports.
• Serve as the primary point of contact with contractors; manage and negotiate change orders.
• Monitor project progress and report schedule delays to the Project Manager and client.
• Direct and oversee field inspectors and office engineering personnel.
• Provide technical guidance on construction methods and design-related issues.
• Coordinate with the Engineer-In-Charge to review and approve deviations from materials and procedures.
• Review and approve submittals and contractor payment applications.
• Support project close-out and contract completion efforts.
• Lead regular construction meetings and address project issues proactively.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• NICET Level IV Certification in Highway Construction
• OR 7 years of road/bridge construction inspection experience
• 1 year of experience as a Resident Engineer on a NJDOT project
• 2 years of experience using Site Manager construction management software
• ACI Certification (American Concrete Institute)
• SAT Certification (NJDOT Site Awareness Training)
• TCP Certification (Rutgers Traffic Control Coordinator Program)
