Job Description

Our client, an AI/ML-driven software startup which accelerates R&D innovation in large consumer product and chemical companies, is seeking to hire a Senior Product Designer (open to Lead title) as a full-time direct hire reporting to the Head of UX.

This company has ~$50M in funding led by one of the three largest VCs in the world, and is currently deployed with ~3500 lab workers within a $20B leader in the chemical and consumer products space for high-seven figures in ARR. Think of their software as similar to what SalesForce did for sales and marketing employees: this disruptive platform replaces inefficient pen/paper, excel sheet, and on-premise software solutions to drastically improve the effectiveness of chemistry and materials science research teams.

This position will drive the design of this company's data-in features, which focus on complex scientific workflows and structured data entry. This person will apply strong UX foundations to build out critical design components for these features and workflows, which will be integrated into the company's design systems. Experience designing reusable components for complex end-to-end workflows within a SaaS organization is a requirement for this role.

IMPORTANT NOTES : This is a hybrid onsite role with a requirement of at least 1-2 days per week onsite in this company's Oakland HQ. Scientific experience is not necessary for this position.

Responsibilities:

• Product Design & Systems Thinking: Apply strong UX foundations to design scalable, intuitive workflows for complex scientific and research applications.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and Scientists to craft solutions that simplify intricate user journeys.
• User-Centered Solutions: Synthesize user problems into elegant, consumer-grade solutions that optimize workflows and data input experiences.
• End-to-End Ownership: Lead design projects from concept to execution, ensuring a high standard of usability and aesthetics.
• Communication & Influence: Effectively communicate design decisions and rationale across teams and stakeholders.

What You Bring:

• 4+ years in SaaS product design with a track record of shipping great products with complex workflows
• Strong systems-thinking mindset to break down and simplify intricate processes.
• Deep UX expertise from academic training (Bachelors or Masters in UI/UX) or industry experience.
• A refined, consumer-grade aesthetic sense in design execution.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Local to the Bay Area.
• Big plus: Experience designing for scientists, researchers, or data-heavy domains.
• Big plus: Experience in startups or startup-like environments.
