In this contingent resource assignment, candidate may:
- Consult on or participate in moderately complex initiatives and deliverables within Communications and contribute to large-scale planning related to Communications deliverables.
- Review and analyze moderately complex Communications challenges that require an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
- Contribute to the resolution of moderately complex issues and consult with others to meet Communications deliverables while leveraging solid understanding of the function, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with client personnel in Communications.
About this role:
Client is seeking a Senior Communications Consultant (Chinese Translator / Linguist) for the In-Language Customer Experience Team with the Chief Operating Office
In this role candidate will:
- Translate, review, proof, and validate content in context as applicable while adhering to strict style guides, terminology, deadlines, and procedures
- Conduct post-translation review and spot-checking for language accuracy and consistency, reporting defects, and verifying fixes
- Support ad hoc projects as needed
- Respond to client feedback, analyze legal and/or compliance feedback provided, act as a liaison to settle any pending issues, and verify feedback implementation by internal linguists / vendors
- Address linguistic queries and consultations on a daily basis from internal clients and vendors
Required Qualifications:
- 4 plus years of Public Relations, Media Relations, or Corporate Communications experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work or consulting experience, training, military experience, education.
- 4 plus years of Management consulting, Strategy Consulting, or Business Operations experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 4 plus years of translation industry experience, project management experience, or a combination of both
- Bilingual speaking, reading, and writing proficiency in Chinese
Desired Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong presentation skills
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) skills
- Strong project management skills
- Solid problem solving skills
- 4 plus years of experience as a professional translator and editor or proofreader, translating, reviewing and providing feedback on marketing, finance, legal and banking material, targeting Spanish-speaking audiences in the U.S. and Latin America
- 3 plus years of verifiable professional experience translating / transcreating creative content (such as marketing and public relation communication content)
- Expertise in transcreating that connects emotionally and is culturally appropriate with the target audience in Chinese
- Bachelor’s degree in Chinese translation or linguistics
- ATA certification
- A diplomatic and professional approach to providing and receiving feedback and critiques
- A willingness to look beyond the day-to-day work and seek out opportunities and understand big pictures
- Ability to develop effective relationships with both internal clients and external vendors
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a time-sensitive and deadline-driven environment
- Adaptability, flexibility, and attention to detail
- Positive attitude, and the willingness to constantly learn new things
- Experience with Computer Assisted Translation and Terminology tools (such as Wordfast, Studio, SDLX, Trados, MultiTerm, etc.)
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat and other common content tools
- Experience with translation management systems (SDL TMS or WorldServer)
- Experience with translation and terminology management tools (Trados Studio, WorldServer, SDLX, or equivalent)
- Experience using Internet-based resources such as dictionaries and glossaries
- Experience working in a complex, matrixed organization
Job Expectations:
- Must take and pass required language assessment
- Must be able to report to a physical office on a hybrid schedule
Top Skills:
- Four years of experience in translation, being bi-lingual doesn’t automatically mean they can translate
- Use of translation tools like Trados Studio, Multiterm, or TMS (Translation Management System)
- American Translations Association (ATA) certification
- Able to pass a language assessment.
- Worked for a major financial institution and understands the jargon unless they’re a very seasoned translator
- Flexible, can handle unexpected changes to the workload where they need to help a team member or stay another hour.
- In Language Customer Experience team supports all groups and enterprise functions with their translation needs.
- Takes English content and translates it into foreign languages.
- Handles verbal and written.
- Primarily works on customer service letters, also internal communications and digital content on apps and websites.
- Delivered 11,500 jobs in 2023 ranging from small letters to hundreds of pages.
- Group split into 2 core functions, one team of linguists and one team of project managers. Project managers take the work requests first and delegate them to the linguists.
- This team member will be helping to cover a high volume of work.
- Job consists of: Translation of material
- Back Translation: translates to target language and then translates it back to the original message to ensure it meets the spirit of the content
- In Context Review: reviewing content in its final layout, say on a webpage as it will be published
- Language Quality Control (LQC): Proof reading content already translated by another party.
- Will work with third party vendors called Language Service Providers (LSP's) that handle outsourced tasks for languages not able to be handled in house and overflow work.
- Internal cutoff for this team is 500 words, otherwise it goes to the LSP.
- The Linguist may work with LSP to handle the LQC or vice versa.
- LSP's handle about 80-85% of the distributed workload.
- There is a workflow tool used that will display the dashboard of jobs the PM has delegated to them.
- The linguist will review the need on the dashboard and handle the need.
- Uses a translation tools to run translation through like glossaries and style guides as well as a translation memory tool to check for existing content matching the need that may be reused.
